Manuela Serrano analyses restructuring trends for 2026 in El Confidencial
More than 90% of law firms anticipate an increase in restructuring operations this year, with larger cases and a particularly dynamic environment for distress M&A transactions. This is reflected in the latest analysis by El Confidencial, which includes contributions from our partner Manuela Serrano.
In her contribution, Serrano identifies the retail and consumer sector as one of the main areas of activity in the coming months, “particularly companies with cost structures inherited from the inflationary period”.
She also points to the possible emergence of transactions in other areas such as real estate, industrial and hospitality sectors, although she stresses that the current landscape does not suggest widespread sectoral crises but rather specific situations: “rather than sector-wide crises, we will see specific cases in certain companies”.
These forecasts come within a context of increasing relevance of restructuring processes, driven both by macroeconomic factors and by the consolidation of the tools provided under insolvency regulations.
